Mike Pence: Legal Abortion Will End In The U.S. “In Our Time”
On Tuesday, Vice-President Mike Pence predicted the end of legal abortion in the U.S. “in our time”.
Speaking at a luncheon hosted by the Susan B. Anthony List & Life Institute, Pence said, “”I know in my heart of hearts this will be the generation that restores life in America.” He then continued, “If all of us do all we can, we can once again, in our time, restore the sanctity of life to the center of American law.”
Pence is firmly pro-life and has long supported policies that are anti-abortion. He also praised President Trump’s progress on this issue since taking office. However, Pence was quick to point out the long battle still to be fought by the pro-life movement. Citing a bill from last year that banned abortions beyond 20 weeks, Pence pointed out that it cleared the House but not the Senate. In fact, two Republicans and all but three Democrats voted against it.
Polls show that 60% of Americans favor a 20 week abortion ban, including those who identify as pro-choice. However, 70% of Americans are in favor of abortion rights. With those numbers, it is hard to see how Pence’s prediction will come true.
