Sen. Kamala Harris Admonished During Hearing
As a tense exchange unfolded, Sen. Harris found herself silenced by colleagues.
Sen. Harris was questioning Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein at the time. Specifically, she wanted to know if he would send a letter to Special Counsel Robert Mueller giving him unlimited authority in his investigation. Robert Mueller is currently looking into possible ties between President Donald Trump’s campaign and Russia.
The problem began as Harris interrupted Rosenstein when he started to say there wasn’t enough time to explain the answer. She then asked for a yes or no answer but the Deputy Attorney General was evasive. Harris continued to press for an answer saying, “either you are willing to do that or not.”
As the exchange continued, Sen. Richard Burr interjected and asked Harris to suspend.
Rosenstein then went on to answer the question, saying he believes Mueller has adequate authority.
The admonishment did not go over well with Democrats or users on social media. It is worth noting however that such occurrences are not uncommon, especially with heated testimony taking place. Harris, to her credit, did not back down however.
With James Comey expected to testify today, it is doubtful we have seen the last of tense, heated exchanges.
