Amid Tensions With President Trump, Jeff Sessions Suggests Resignation
While no formal offer was made, AG Jeff Sessions has put the idea out there.
According to a new report by ABC News, the relationship between President Trump and Jeff Sessions has become so strained that the AG has even suggested he could resign.
The ill-will between the two men apparently stems from Sessions decision in March to recuse himself from anything related to the Russia investigation. It was a decision the president only learned about minutes before Sessions announced it publicly, which left no room for discussion.
Trump’s anger over Session’s decision to recuse himself has not diminished with time. In fact, President Trump supposedly blames the AG for the expansion of the Russia investigation. The investigation is now overseen by Special Counsel and former FBI Director Robert Mueller. President Trump remarked back in May his belief that the appointment of special counsel makes America look weak.
Reportedly though, the frustration is a two-way street, which is why Session suggested resigning.
ABC News attempted to follow up on whether the attorney general had threatened or offered to resign. Justice Department spokesperson Sarah Isgur Flores declined to comment.
