Alleged NSA Leaker to Plead Not Guilty
Intelligence Contractor, Reality Winner will enter her plea today at detention hearing.
The announcement was made by her attorney, Titus Nichols on Wednesday.
“My client is innocent until proven guilty and we plan to enter a plea of not guilty,” he said. Reality Winner has been charged with providing “top secret” documents to online news outlet The Intercept. Winner remains in a county jail in Lincoln County, Georgia.
Winner was arrested on Saturday at around 8 p.m., according to her arrest report. However, the Justice Department didn’t announce that she had been taken into custody until Monday, shortly after The Intercept published the documents.
The Intercept’s report described new details about Russian efforts to hack voting systems in the United States a week prior to the 2016 presidential election.
Despite reports that Winner admitted her guilt to authorities, her attorney said, “if there is a confession, the government has not shown it to me.”
